Alpine Hush

The feeling of warmth and peace after an intense Western storm is unlike much else. This afternoon a storm cracked out of nowhere - lightning streaking the sky. We all hid behind some large rocks until it got a bit too intense, which led us to bolt towards the beginning of the trail. 

However, we only had to run for a few minutes. The storm passed, as it always does out West. The entire area exhaled and the sun smiled back down with its golden beams. We shed our wet layers and waded into my favorite part of the lake. That seemingly endless stretch of turquoise sand beneath the Tetons. The moment felt like a true Alpine hush where the mountains and animals are all silently stunned by the swing from storm to sun. It echoes our annual girls trip to Jackson when this shot was taken - new trails, late nights at the Cowboy, the same laughs since we were fourteen - set against the ease we feel while together. In a hectic world, true friends feel like a deep breath.
